An Extended Edition of The Martian Is Coming This Summer
There have been rumors of an extended cut of Ridley Scott's The Martian ever since it came out, and now it looks like we may finally get to see it. According to a new report from Digital Bits, 20th Century Fox just listed The Martian: Extended Cut for release on June 8.

Will the Extended Cut be anything like the rumored director's cut? Scott told Collider last year that the first cut was 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the Extended Cut is said to include around 20 minutes of new footage, which sounds about right. Here's a scene that didn't make the theatrical release and will presumably be included in the extended cut, which features more of Mark Watney sciencing the shit out of everything:

The Martian already has rave reviews, and we thought that it was a very streamlined plot that doesn't necessarily need any additions. But still, we could watch Matt Damon riffing with his trademark Mark Watney humor all day. We'd most like to see the inclusion of water on Mars, as NASA informed Scott of that news several months before the rest of us. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that Scott had the chance to shoot anything, even a deleted scene, but maybe one of the special features will involve water on Mars in some way.
