Will Lex Luthor Appear in Justice League?

We're just coming off of Batman v Superman, but pre-production for Justice League is well underway, and many of the actors are officially listed as part of the cast, including BvS's Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Godot. But one BvS actor is conspicuously missing from the cast list: Jesse Eisenberg, and according to a recent interview, the actor himself doesn't know when or whether the character will be back.

Opening quote
"I don't know if they are so settled on where my character goes," Eisenberg told Business Insider. "I only hope I have another opportunity to work with these wonderful people and play this interesting character."
Closing quote

This is a strange statement, especially considering that Justice League Part One starts production on April 11. Could he really not know at this point whether he's appearing in Part One, when it starts filming in only two weeks? Unless he's trying not to spoil us, this probably means he's at least sitting Part One out. Part Two is technically in pre-production as well, and all of the other main characters from BvS are listed as part of that cast as well, but it's early enough that they could still be figuring it out.

Possible spoilers ahead! (Click to reveal)

At the end of Batman v Superman, Lex was sitting in a jail cell, so there's a possibility he'll be out of commission for one movie and then will be back in action for Part Two. It's hard to imagine that they would bring in such a famous DC villain for only one movie, especially since BvS was vaguely set up like a Lex origin story, complete with that ending shot of him with his iconic bald head.

Eisenberg's interpretation of Lex was polarizing, with some fans absolutely hating his take on the villain and others citing his performance as one of the best parts of the movie. (I personally thought he was great at the beginning, but the character fell apart at the end purely as a result of the terrible writing.) But a mixed reception shouldn't be enough to get Eisenberg fired from the franchise. Zack Snyder is still standing, isn't he?

Batman v Superman is now out in theaters, while Justice League Part One comes out on November 17, 2017, and Part Two comes out on June 14, 2019.
