New Doctor Strange Set Photos Reveal Mads Mikkelsen's Villain
Marvel's Doctor Strange is out later this year, and after kicking production off in Nepal, Scott Derrickson's movie returned to the Marvel heartland of New York City this weekend, bringing with it some brilliantly meme-worthy set photos of Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular sorcerer.

But while the many images of Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange were entertaining, they didn't give us much in the way of information about the movie. Despite allowing an open set in one of the world's busiest cities, Marvel's Doctor Strange remains something of an enigma, at least in terms of key plot points.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the movie revolves around the identity of Mads Mikkelsen's role. Marvel has confirmed the Danish actor would be playing the movie's villain, but they've kept all other details under wraps. That is until now, because Mikkelsen was also on set in New York, and some of the Big Apple's populace have successfully managed to capture images of him in full costume. Seen below, the images of a frankly terrifying looking Mikkelsen have prompted Marvel fans to conclude that Doctor Strange's big bad will be one of two classic characters.

Last year, before Mikkelsen's appointment, we wrote about 5 potential villains that could make an appearance in Marvel's Doctor Strange. Of those 5, there was one in particular that most Doctor Strange fans would want to see. Dormammu is one of the most-powerful villains ever to appear on Marvel's pages, and as such, many have been dying to see the demon-like being make an appearance on the big screen. And although these photos don't show Mikkelsen looking anything like Dormammu's normal form, it's perfectly reasonable to suggest that Mikkelsen's character is merely serving as a host for the Lord of the Dark Dimension.

The other classic Doctor Strange villain being thrown around in reaction to these set photos is that of Nightmare. Kind of like the Freddy Kruger of the Marvel Universe, Nightmare rules the 'Dream Dimension' a place where he drags sleeping humans to wreak havoc on their souls. While he's not nearly as powerful as someone like Dormammu, Nightmare was one of the first villains Stephen Strange ever faced off against, so it could be a nice jumping off point for the sorcerer's on-screen life.

Oh, and if you're wondering where you can find Benedict Cumberbatch while he's in New York, you might want to check your local comic book store...
