Zack Snyder Says Ben Affleck Directing the Batman Solo Movie Is a "Prerequisite"
Remember how upset everyone was about Ben Affleck's casting as the Dark Knight? Now Batfleck is one of the only widely beloved things about Batman v Superman, and fans are clamoring for Affleck to not only star in, but also write and/or direct a solo Batman movie. According to Zack Snyder, Affleck directing is not only a possibility, but a "prerequisite" for the film:

When asked by JOE.ie whether Ben Affleck would come on board to write, Snyder said:

Opening quote
"I keep working on him, he's always said he's a one movie at a time guy. He's finishing editing his film, Live By Night, and then he comes to Justice League. And then after that, I think he's going to try and develop the story, and so then we'll see if he likes it."
Closing quote

It's no surprise that Affleck is willing to do a script treatment, considering that his longtime agent, Patrick Whitesell, recently said that he had already written a script for the solo Batman movie. But when asked whether Affleck would also direct, Snyder confirmed that that is, at least, the plan for now:

Opening quote
"Oh yeah, for sure. I think he would. I think that's kind of the prerequisite, hopefully, for him doing [the film]."
Closing quote

Obviously, this is not an official confirmation, as the ball seems to be squarely in Affleck's court. But at the very least, it seems that Snyder and Warner Bros. understand what a boon Ben Affleck's Batman is to them and the new DCEU, so hopefully they can make this work with Affleck's schedule and creative preferences.

Batman v Superman is now out in theaters, while the Batman solo film is tentatively scheduled to come out sometime in 2018.
