Is Another Solo Superman Movie on the Way?

There were a lot of rumors that a straight up Man of Steel sequel was shelved in favor of Batman v Superman, and then even more rumors that Warner Bros. wanted the focus of that film to be more on the Dark Knight than on Superman. Also, DC has their superhero movies scheduled for the next five years, and nowhere on that slate is there a solo Superman movie. So does that mean that another Superman movie isn't going to happen?

Not necessarily. In a new interview with IGN, both director Zack Snyder and star Henry Cavil seem ready for another crack at a standalone Superman flick. "I think if we can get a good script, it would be great to get a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do," Snyder says. We have to note that it's interesting that he says they'll hold out for a good script, considering that they didn't seem to do any such thing while making Batman v Superman, but it's still nice to hear.

As for Cavill, he's less reserved in his excitement, but he knows it may take a while. "[DC and Warner Bros.] have got their plan set up for other stuff and Justice League and various other movies, so it's about finding the time really," Cavill says. "It's something I'd be very keen to do."

So will there be another Superman movie? Who knows. It may depend ultimately on how well Batman v Superman does at the box office by the time it finishes its run. The film has made $700 million worldwide already, which is the good news. The bad news is that industry analysts considered anything less than a billion for the film to be a disappointment, and it's been slowing down at a record pace. So without another $300 million in ticket sales, we might be looking at a Superman reboot in the next decade.
