Stunt Actor Cast to Play Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?
With the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story now available for studying, the picture around the upcoming Star Wars spin-off has become a little less foggy. Felicity Jones's lead character's name, the presence of new stormtroopers and other key Star Wars figures have all now been confirmed, but there remain a number of burning questions. For example, the appearance of Darth Vader in the upcoming movie has all but been confirmed, but we're yet to get any concrete details on what role the Lord of the Sith will play.

However, a new rumor emerged today, claiming to have uncovered the identity of the actor who will fill the boots once filled by David Prowse as the imposing body behind Vader's all-black life-support suit. According to Flickering Myth, British actor Spencer Wilding has secured the iconic role, and the report goes on to suggest that Wilding has been running lines on set, which would suggest Vader's role will have a speaking capacity.

At 6ft 7in tall, Wilding certainly has the height required to follow in Prowse's legendary footsteps, in fact he's actually a whole inch taller than his compatriot and predecessor who played the role in all three original trilogy Star Wars movies. But Wilding also has experience in a host of popular geek properties from Marvel;s Guardians of the Galaxy to Doctor Who, and Game of Thrones.

Wilding is an accomplished stunt actor, and if these rumors are true I would like to think his appointment means we might see a slightly more mobile and active Vader in Rogue One. In fact, such rumors have previously emerged stating that we would get to see Vader terrorizing the battlefield in action shots the likes of which we've never seen him in outside of TV and video games.

As for Vader's voice, it's not yet been confirmed, but if the Dark Lord does have a speaking role it would almost certainly be carried out by the original voice of Vader, James Earl Jones.
