Rumor Claims to Reveal New Star Trek TV Show's Place in the Timeline
These are exciting times for Star Trek fans. The movie universe has changed hands with Justin Lin and Simon Pegg stepping into the fore, and there's even a new TV show to look forward to. However, hile we know a decent amount about the latest movie, less is known about the the TV show, which is set to air on CBS's streaming platform in early 2017.

Of course, we know that Bryan Fuller is heading up the project, and we know that the likes of Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin are involved, with Wrath of Khan's Nicholas Meyer leading the charge on the writing front. But what's less clear is the form the show will take and, perhaps most importantly, when it will be set. Many wanted to see the show set further down the timeline, blazing a new path into an unexplored era, but a new report suggests that won't be the case.

According to BMD's Devin Faraci, the new TV show will actually be set just after Star Trek VI: Undiscovered Country. This would place the TV show before the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but it would also mean there's a limited chance of seeing a Kirk cameo. The report goes on to add credence to the rumors that the show won't be set on the Enterprise, but before you roll your eyes in disappointment, Faraci also provided an update on the show's format, which could give many fans reason to be cheerful.

Opening quote
A trusted source has chimed in and told me that it looks like the show will be a seasonal anthology, which means the first season will be set post-Undiscovered Country. After that the entire Star Trek universe is potentially open. So those of you hoping for a post-Dominion War show... don't give up hope. That could come some day.
Closing quote

As the likes of American Horror Story and Fargo have shown, the anthology format is one that can work well for TV. The idea of exploring a new time in the Star Trek Universe, with a new crew each season is actually pretty neat, so let's hope this one comes through.
