Fox Confirms Deadpool 2 is Officially Happening
In what will probably be today's least surprising geek headline, Fox execs have confirmed that a sequel to Tim Miller's Deadpool movie is officially moving forward.

After bringing in over $750m in global box office, Tim Miller's Deadpool, which starred Ryan Reynolds as the titular merc with a mouth, was always likely to get a shot at a sequel. However, Miller and the creative team behind the movie had been strictly limited to talking about a sequel in terms of hypotheticals, and now we know why. Fox was clearly holding back the announcement for Cinemacon, the massive movie industry event which concludes in Las Vegas today. Given the overwhelmingly positive response the first movie garnered from critics and fans alike, we expect there wouldn't have been a single surprised face in the house.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will return to write the sequel, which is widely expected to feature a long awaited showdown between Deadpool and his old pal Cable. But, just because the first Deadpool movie made a ton of money, don't Miller and his team to all of a sudden step up and start throwing BatmanSuperman levels of cash at the sequel. Just this week, Miller said that his team "don't want to make a $200 million epic superhero Deadpool movie. We want to make the $50 million Deadpool sequel."

There's no official word on when Deadpool 2 will be released, but we do know that Fox has reserved two dates for upcoming Marvel movies. Those dates are October 6, 2017 and January 12, 2018, so you can probably expect it to be one of those.
