James Cameron Adds Yet Another Avatar Sequel, First Planned for 2018
If you're sad about waiting for the Avatar sequel, don't worry, James Cameron is just going to add another sequel every time he delays it. We're now up to four Avatar sequels, and they're just going to keep multiplying as long as international audiences continue to pay for it.

At first, Avatar was supposed to be a trilogy, with the first sequel once rumored for as early as 2014, then 2015, then 2016, then 2017... you get the idea. Last we heard, there were three sequels, none of which had release dates, but now there are four, with the first set to come out sometime in 2018.

It's very possible that it will be delayed again, since it will likely just depend on how long the onerous post-production process takes, but we know that production is starting in April, so the movie is happening, at the very least. As of now, the subsequent sequels are scheduled for 2020, 2022, and 2023, which may indicate that the last film is going to be split into two, YA trilogy-style.
