Here's Evidence That Kylo Ren Was Toying with Finn During That Lightsaber Duel
One of the major criticisms of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was Kylo Ren's apparent lack of lightsaber skills, since both Finn and Rey were able to hold their own against him in their respective duels. There are several possible explanations for this aside from the "Kylo Ren is lame" standby (including the fact that he had just been shot with a bowcaster), but in this new video, Youtube user Derek Miller proposes another fan theory, namely that Kylo didn't particularly want to win:

The video compares the lightsaber duel between Finn and Kylo Ren to the infamous duel between Luke and Vader in Empire Strikes Back. In the latter, Vader was clearly playing with his food and not actually trying to kill Luke, which was most evident when he (kind of hilariously) only used one hand to parry Luke's blows. Kylo isn't as powerful as Vader--especially since he didn't finish his Jedi training--but he also imitates Vader's arrogant, complacent fighting style. Much has been made of TFA's parallels to the original trilogy, but this one actually makes narrative sense, since Kylo is trying so hard to emulate Vader.

And although it isn't shown in the video, many fans have pointed out a similar factor in the duel between Kylo and Rey. Rey had never even picked up a lightsaber before this scene, so Kylo should have beaten her handily. But not only is Rey particularly Force-sensitive (which will likely be explained in future movies), he clearly doesn't want to kill her. The novelization confirms that he knows who she is and has some kind of connection to her (probably a familial one), and Snoke told him to bring her in alive anyway.
