Jurassic World 2 Has Found Its Director
Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World was one of 2015's biggest hits, its box office haul surpassed only by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Given the movie's incredible success, it's no surprise that a sequel was swiftly greenlit by Universal who hope to get the next installment to theaters for the Summer 2018 season. But with a major Star Wars movie among the items on his to-do list, Trevorrow won't be returning as director and will instead be taking a back seat on the project.

It had been rumored for some time that Trevorrow would be passing the directorial torch to another up-and-coming talent in the form of Spanish director, J.A Bayona. Now, Trevorrow has taken to social media to confirm that said rumors were true, officially announcing Bayona as the director of Jurassic World 2.

Barcelona-born Bayona is probably best known for his work directing the excellent and incredibly creepy horror flick, The Orphanage. More recently, Bayona directed Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in The Impossible before working on a number of episodes for Showtime's Penny Dreadful.

Jurassic Park fans will be hoping that Bayona can replicate Trevorrow's success, because the man who is set to direct the final installment of the new Star Wars trilogy has said in the past that he envisaged his Jurassic World movie as the first entry into a whole new trilogy for the franchise.

Jurassic World 2 is scheduled for release on June 22nd 2018.
