Blade Runner 2 Release Date Moves Up to 2017
For everyone who thought it might be a bad sign that Blade Runner 2 was pushed off until January 2018, we can now rest easy. The Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel has now been moved up several months, so it will be released on October 6, 2017.

It seemed odd (and possibly ominous) that it was going to be released in January, since that's usually the no-man's-land of movies that aren't entertaining enough to be summer blockbusters and aren't good enough to be Oscar contenders. (Although technically, it still could have been an Oscar contender if it had had a limited release in 2017, like American Sniper.) But it seems that Warner Bros. has lots of faith in the film, as they're placing it squarely in the middle of awards season, on a similar date to 2015's The Martian, which went on to garner seven Oscar noms.

The Blade Runner sequel will star Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, as well as Ryan Gosling as an as-yet-undisclosed character. House of Cards' Robin Wright and Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista will also star, and although plot details are under wraps, we know that the film will definitively settle the question of whether Rick Deckard is a Replicant.
