Sigourney Weaver says Neill Blomkamp's Alien Movie Will be Worth the Wait
Boy, the Alien franchise sure has had its ups and downs in recent years. From the lofty levels of Ridley Scott and James Cameron's work in the 70's and 80's to some more suspect productions in the 1990's, fans of the franchise have grown accustomed to taking the good with the bad. But since then, we've had countless lackluster video game adaptations and our been let down by Ridley Scott's subpar prequel, Prometheus. So, when Neill Blomkamp revealed his plans to make a fifth Alien movie that would be more in tune with the original movies, we all let out a collective yelp of joy.

Unfortunately, those collective yelps of joy soon turned to a collective nervous shuffling, because every bit of news that has emerged since Blomkamp's statement of intent has seen the movie get pushed further and further back. Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott's follow up to Prometheus has now sidled its way into the 2017 release slot previously slated for Blomkamp's movie, leaving the 'Alien 5' project in a state of limbo.

One of the most exciting elements of Blomkamp's project was the fact that it had received the blessing of original star, Sigourney Weaver. Weaver, along with fellow Alien pioneer Michael Bien, has committed to returning to the franchise for Blomkamp's project, giving us the prospect of seeing what Ripley and Hicks are up to a couple of decades after their original exploits. Best of all, Weaver seems genuinely excited by what Blomkamp is putting together, and the Oscar winner has just said that she believes our patience will 100% be rewarded when the movie makes it to the big screen.

Opening quote
"Well, I think it is. Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien 'til after 'Prometheus 2.' [Ridley] wanted his movie to shoot and be released first," Weaver said during an appearance at VMware. "But it's an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it. We're doing other things until we can get going on that. I'd be really surprised if we didn't do it, because it's such a great script, and we love working together. So, it's just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it'll be worth the wait."
Closing quote

Well, if Ripley says the wait will be worth it, we certainly aren't going to argue.
