The DCEU’s Shazam is Still Waiting On a Script
It was almost since the inception of the DCEU that Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson was cast as Black Adam, the biggest enemy of the magical superhero, Shazam. Since then, it's been known that DC had a Shazam movie in the works, though it was put on the back burner and planned for what some see as DC's "phase two."

However, it's now been almost two years since the casting announcement, and nothing else has been said about when exactly the movie would be coming to theaters. Now, Heroic Hollywood is reporting that the studio is still waiting on a script.

That may not be such a bad thing, though. It was rumored back in 2014 that Darren Lemke, the screenwriter of Shrek Forever After, Jack the Giant Slayer, and Goosebumps, was hired to write the script. The fact that it's still not done almost two years later may mean that the initial report was wrong, or that the studio has chosen to go with someone other than Lemke. He could always surprise everyone with a script that blows everyone away, but the other movies he's been involved with haven't necessarily turned out so great.

It's also interesting that the DCEU will seemingly be taking inspiration from the New 52 comics in yet another way, by introducing Shazam to the team shortly after the founding seven. Geoff Johns did an entire Shazam story arc earlier in his current run on Justice League, and it proved to be one of the most memorable in recent history and quite possibly one of the very best Shazam stories to date.

Shazam will surely shake up the dynamic of the on screen Justice League, however, as he's essentially a ten year old boy who turns into a god every time he says "Shazam!" With the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury, he's one of the only DC superheroes with the raw ability to take on Superman. His immature antics are a trademark of the character due to his real age, and he can often be found chatting it up or playing video games with the next youngest member of the team, Cyborg.

Hopefully, more news will come soon about the script. Shazam is set to be produced by New Line instead of WB proper, and the only news of its tentative release date have come from the Rock, who said last year that he thinks it'll be out before 2019. Whether that's still the case, however, is yet to be seen.
