6 Actors Who Could Play a Grown-Up Newt in Alien 5
Today is Alien Day, and in honor of that momentous occasion, Neill Blomkamp released some concept art for a grown-up Newt, who will star in his ambiguously delayed Alien 5 movie.

It had been previously reported that Newt would be cast as a twenty-seven-year-old, with the intent of "passing on the torch" to a younger generation for a rebooted franchise. But who's up to the task of following in Ripley's footsteps? We've compiled a list of six actors who are approximately the right age and could pull off an older, hardened, bad-ass version of Newt:

Emma Watson

Alien 5 Newt

Of all of our picks, Watson looks the most like an older Carrie Henn. And although she's still best-known for another major franchise, her career has grown way past Hermione, as she's turned in acclaimed performances in decidedly adult films like The Bling Ring and My Week with Marilyn, not to mention that she's coming off of a highly anticipated sci-fi film, The Circle. And considering her talent and all of her work in women's rights, there's no one more suited to taking up the mantle of a kick-ass heroine.

Maika Monroe

Alien 5 Newt

Maika Monroe's career is blowing up right now, and it's well-deserved, after wonderful turns in sci-fi/horror indies The Guest and It Follows. She'll likely be busy with the Independence Day sequel(s) for a while, but Alien 5 may not be made for years, so the timing might be perfect for her to join another classic sci-fi franchise.

Elizabeth Olsen

Alien 5 Newt

We desperately want Scarlet Witch to get her own movie, but as long as she's relegated to a supporting role in the MCU, Elizabeth Olsen would have plenty of time to star in Alien 5. And after the work she's done as the hugely powerful superhero (not to mention her amazing performances in indies like Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House), we can completely imagine her portraying a gun-toting heroine.

Anya Taylor-Joy

Alien 5 Newt

Anya Taylor-Joy is a little bit young-looking for the role right now, but again, Alien 5 might not be in production for several years, and she scared the living daylights out of us in The Witch. Plus, of all of our picks, she's the least recognizable face, which is ideal for launching a new franchise.

Chloe Grace Moretz

Alien 5 Newt

Chloe Grace Moretz has made a career out of playing heavily armed, precocious assassins, and yet she hasn't quite found the role that's made her a household name. Young adult franchise The Fifth Wave had potential to be her defining role, but Lord knows that's not going to happen, so she would be a perfect choice to take over Alien.

Daisy Ridley

Alien 5 Newt

Okay, we know this is never going to happen, since Ridley is way too recognizable as Rey to helm another franchise. But then again, she was the first actress we thought of when we saw that concept art, and her association with Star Wars hasn't prevented her from being in contention for the Tomb Raider reboot, so you never know.
