Batman: The Killing Joke Gets an Official Release Date
We're finally getting an R-rated adaptation of The Killing Joke--featuring none other than Mark Hamill in his second-most-iconic role--and now EW has revealed an official Blu-ray release date: August 2.

The animated Batman: The Killing Joke will debut for a few lucky fans at San Diego Comic Con in July, and then will be available on VOD starting July 23. But if you can wait until that August release date, you'll get the deluxe edition and the combo pack, which includes two episodes of The New Batman Adventures and Batman: The Animated Series, as well as two featurettes. The first, called Madness Set to Music, is a documentary short that shows the storyboarding of the film and the creation of the score, and the second, Many Shades of the Joker: The Tale of the Killing Joke, is a making-of special feature that focuses on the adaptation from the graphic novel.

Batman: The Killing Joke stars Kevin Conroy as Batman, Tara Strong (Teen Titans) as Barbara Gordon, Ray Wise (Robocop) as Commissioner Gordon, and, of course, Mark Hamill reprising his role as The Joker from the Justice League animated series, which many have hailed as the definitive performance of the character. The film is said to be very faithful to the graphic novel, with the exception of a 15-minute Barbara-centric prologue, which will seek to make the story a little less problematic from a social justice perspective.
