EA and Respawn are Creating a Third-Person Star Wars Action-Adventure Video Game
The Disney era of the Star Wars franchise might have given us more movies, books and comics than we can possibly handle, but we're yet to see the rapid storytelling expansion hit the gaming world. To date, the only major Star Wars gaming property to emerge since Disney's takeover is Star Wars Battlefront, a multiplayer shooter (with zero space battles) featuring a host of famous characters from the original trilogy movies. Battlefront has received mixed reviews from fans, with many just happy at being able to control the likes of Vader, Luke, and Leia, and others criticizing it for a distinct lack of depth. But, regardless of how you feel about Battlefront, it's hard to deny that it's lacking the sense of narrative that was so often crucial to the success of the old LucasArts properties. Heck, even Finn himself is craving some story-based play.

While EA won't be adding a story mode to Battlefront any time soon, they have just announced the next best thing. EA has revealed they are working with Respawn games to bring a new Star Wars adventure game to market.

Opening quote
"Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group," said EA's Patrick Söderlund. "Their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation. And now, with a new team led by Stig Asmussen, we get to see what they can do when you combine that great attention to gameplay with the power of Star Wars.

"Developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within," adds Asmussen, who previously worked on the God of War series before joining Respawn in 2014. "We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead."
Closing quote

No details on setting or story have been announced, but we do know that the game will feature third person action-adventure gameplay, giving us at least some hope that our hunger for story-based Star Wars gaming will be satisfied.

If that's not enough, there's also the previously-announced Star Wars project from EA's Visceral Games. That particular project was rumored to be an open world RPG featuring Han Solo, but that theory has since been debunked by the game's co-writer. Either way, the future of Star Wars gaming is (finally) starting to look a lot brighter.
