Rumor: Supergirl to Join Arrow/Flash on The CW?
Supergirl is on the bubble for a renewal, and although another season is looking likely, there still may be some snags along the way. According to a new report, the show's budget is a sticking point, and big cuts might lead to a move to The CW.

Back in March, CBS president Leslie Moonves told investors that all of CBS's freshman shows, including Supergirl, would return for next season. But then, when the official renewals started coming in, Supergirl wasn't on the list, and the ratings are reportedly borderline. The ratings are decent, but the show has steadily declined in viewership almost every episode since its widely-watched premiere, and has lost about half of its audience over the course of the first season.

According to a new report from The Wrap, while CBS sees potential in the show and wants to bring it back, the lukewarm ratings don't justify the show's $3 million budget, which is one of the highest license fees ever for a freshman show. As a result, the renewal talks have mostly centered around possible budget cuts, and a possible move to The CW. The CW is already a joint venture between CBS and Warner Bros, they have a generally lower budget for its shows, and, of course, all of Greg Berlanti's other DCTV shows live there.

This makes a ton of sense, especially since Supergirl got a huge boost in the ratings from the Flash crossover. This illustrates that Supergirl fits in much better with The CW's younger, superhero-loving demographic (which we all knew anyway). Plus, moving to The CW would make more crossovers possible, and Supergirl might find its niche a little better if it were properly part of the Flarrowverse.

However, we should take this report with a HUGE grain of salt. The Wrap's article is unclear about whether they actually have any sources telling them about a possible move to The CW, or whether they're just reporting claims from the "fan rumor mill." And the one source they did cite unequivocally denied the rumor:

Opening quote
"That's been a rumor for two years," one talent rep told The Wrap. "Zero fact."

But that being said, it would only be a logical move, and it's possible that insiders are trying to hide this possibility because it would mean huge budget cuts for the show. Either way, we can expect to find out for sure when CBS announces its full schedule in two weeks at the upfront presentations in New York.
