Captain America: Civil War Ranks Only Behind Avengers: Age of Ultron in Thursday Box Office
Captain America: Civil War was already a box office hit before even coming out in the U.S., passing $260 million internationally ahead of its opening. But it looks like it will be equally successful in domestic markets, as it soared past every other Marvel movie to come out so far, with the exception of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In late-night Thursday showings, Civil War made $25 million, ranking behind Age of Ultron's $27.6 million. With its international haul, according to Deadline, this means it will cross $300 million today. This is a huge accomplishment for Civil War, which is technically a solo superhero movie (although, to be fair, it has a lot more heroes than Avengers or Age of Ultron).

And if the early reviews and fan reception is any indication, there's no reason the numbers should drop significantly. As we saw with Batman v Superman, negative reviews can significantly hurt box office, even when huge properties are involved, but Civil War currently stands at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, equal to the first Avengers film. We'll see if Civil War will pass that coveted $1 billion mark, but at the very least, it's set to be a massive box office success.
