Warner Bros. Promotes Ben Affleck to Executive Producer on Justice League
Warner Bros. is doubling down on Batfleck. After the rapturous reception of his performance as Batman (and the less-than-rapturous reception for Batman v Superman as a whole), Warner Bros. has given Ben Affleck a Batman solo movie--which he will produce and most likely direct--and now has upgraded him to executive producer on Justice League.

Deadline first broke the news, and reported that Affleck will be working with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio to "make the film the best it can be." They also stated that he was brought on "to be supportive of Snyder," because they worked well together on Batman v Superman.

Does this show a lack of confidence in Zack Snyder? Warner Bros. was quick to come to his defense after Batman v Superman, but that's the obvious takeaway. It's just gossip at this point, but either way, it's a positive sign if Warner Bros. is willing to make changes at all. It was more disconcerting that Warner Bros. was insisting that they weren't changing course creatively at all, which makes no sense, considering that Batman v Superman was so poorly received. It makes perfect sense, however, that they would take advantage of Ben Affleck's creative mind, since he has directed three highly acclaimed films, including Argo, which was also written by Chris Terrio and won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Justice League Part One opens on November 17, 2017.
