Ben Affleck Reportedly “Incredibly Unhappy” With Critical Reception for Batman v Superman
Recently, news that Ben Affleck would be an executive producer on Justice League hit the web. That's certainly something for DC fans to be hopeful about, as Affleck has proven from his immense experience in the industry and his track record as a director that he truly understands and has a knack for filmmaking. However, another report by Birth.Movies.Death was released shortly after news of Affleck signing on as producer came out, revealing something that Batman himself is "incredibly unhappy" about.

Opening quote
My sources have told me that Affleck was incredibly unhappy about the reception of BvS. He felt humiliated after spending so much of the press tour saying how much better this film would be than Daredevil. On top of that his agent was furious when Kevin Tsujihara jumped the gun and announced him as the director of The Batman - there were still negotiations happening.

This move seems to help placate Affleck while also edging Zack Snyder out of a controlling central position in the DC Movieverse.
Closing quote

Birth.Movies.Death has been hit and miss with certain scoops in the past, but they've recently proven accurate on reports concerning the Suicide Squad reshoots (though their assumption that it was to add more humor to the film were denied by everyone involved) and Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder being at odds over the vision for Justice League (something that other sources have seconded). So while this report should be taken with a grain of salt, it would seem from the evidence that what they've reported on here is likely true.

The fact that Affleck is unhappy with the critical reception of Batman v Superman is probably a good thing, however, as it seems to indicate that he realizes the film's flaws and knows that adjustments need to be made in the style of storytelling the DCEU uses going forward. Snyder's vision really seems to only appeal to a niche audience at this point, and while some fans were extremely pleased with Batman v Superman and Snyder's current take on the DCEU, his vision seems like an unviable option at this point for the future of DC movies if the studio ever wants them to do as well as competitors, which is a necessity for DC films to continue to be viable projects period.

Affleck has had tons of experience in moviemaking, and while some of the films he's acted in have been embarrassments, all of those embarrassments have quite arguably been the fault of the script, the director, or some other source. Each of the movies he's directed have achieved critical success, and from every interview or comment he's made about filmmaking, it's evident that Affleck's a very serious minded and talented filmmaker. With Justice League having both he and George Miller as producers, it's at least got a shot of being something different than Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, and if WB really is looking to edge Zack Snyder "out of a controlling central position in the DC Movieverse," then there's arguably no better man for the job than Ben Affleck.
