Simon Kinberg Confirms R-Rating for Wolverine 3
Hugh Jackman is coming back #OneLastTime as Logan, and he's going out with a bang. Executive producer Simon Kinberg addressed the rampant rumors surrounding the film, and confirmed that this will be the darkest, most violent version of Wolverine yet:

Opening quote
"It's a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you've ever seen in any of these movies," Kinberg told Collider"It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It's violent, it's kind of like a western in its tone. It's just a very cool, different film."
Closing quote

It was previously rumored that Fox was "targeting" an R-rating for the final Jackman-starring Wolverine movie, but this is the first official confirmation that the film will actually be rated R. This new influx of R-rated movies--most definitely inspired by the success of Deadpool--is a mixed bag, since we don't want studios to start making superhero movies R-rated for the sake of it. But considering how violent Wolverine has become as a character, hopefully the rating will be warranted, and it's at least a positive development that no one's afraid to make an R-rated superhero movie anymore.

It's also interesting that Wolverine 3 is described as a "western" and that it takes place in the future. We don't know how far in the future it will take place, and since Days of Future Past made the timeline so wonky, it could be pretty much anytime. But the mishmash of genres should be pretty interesting, even if it probably won't be as funky as a Firefly-type thing.

Wolverine 3 opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.
