Warner Bros. Pushes Off Dates for Godzilla 2, Godzilla vs Kong, and (Maybe) Green Lantern
Warner Bros. is shuffling their schedule, and with their renewed focus on tentpole properties, the shifts affect several of the most exciting geeky movies to come out in the next few years. The studio has announced new dates for the Godzilla sequel, monster mash-up Godzilla vs. Kong, and an as-yet-untitled DC movie, long thought to be Green Lantern.

Here's the updated schedule:

March 22, 2019 - Godzilla 2 (previously June 8, 2018)
May 29, 2020 - Godzilla vs. Kong
December 25, 2018 - Untitled Warner Bros. Event Film
July 24, 2020 - Untitled DC Comics Movie (previously June 19, 2020)

The most significant delay is for Godzilla 2, which will see the return of director Gareth Edwards and screenwriter Max Borenstein, but that doesn't necessarily mean there are any production issues. Paramount recently set a Transformers 6 movie for the same date, and if they only pushed it off for a month or so, then they would be competing with the Jurassic World sequel, which opens on June 22, 2018 as of now. And although we still have no idea how the actual fight between Godzilla and King Kong would work logistically, we now know that the movie will open in 2020.

There's still no word on what the Warner Bros. "event film" is, but the untitled DC Comics movie is most likely Green Lantern Corps, as that's the only one that has been announced but doesn't yet have a release date. This moves it to two weeks after a Marvel movie rather than three weeks before, so DC will need to step up their game in the next few years to compete with that box office power.
