Supergirl's Possible Move to The CW Is Real
Apparently those rumored talks about Supergirl moving to The CW weren't such a rumor after all. According to a new report from Deadline, the "talks are now real," and Supergirl's pending renewal for a second season is likely contingent on joining her fellow DC heroes Arrow, Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow on the teen-oriented network.

Supergirl has been on the bubble for a season two renewal, since its ratings have been decent but not stellar, which is unsatisfactory considering it had one of the highest license fees ever for a freshman show. The show was seeking a partial season order from CBS at a lower price, but previous reports claimed that talks were leaning towards sending it to The CW, especially in light of the younger skew of its audience. Plus, The CW is co-owned by CBS and Warner Bros., and the network previously expressed regret about not picking up the pilot to be part of the DCTV universe while it had the chance.

Now, Deadline's sources are saying that CBS has until the end of day today to decide whether to renew Supergirl, whether on CBS or The CW, and that insiders are worried that the budget could never be cut enough for the show to be produced on The CW. But Greg Berlanti is reportedly already making an effort to cut the budget pre-emptively, especially by moving Supergirl's production from L.A. to Vancouver (where the Flarrowverse series are also filmed).

It's still not a sure thing by any means, but it really seems to make the most sense. Supergirl has enough of a fan base that cancelling it seems like a waste (as well as a shame), and the network has already seen that it got a huge boost in the ratings from the Flash crossover. If Supergirl were integrated more into the Flarrowverse, it would likely gain many more viewers, and while the budget cuts would likely hurt the special effects somewhat, that doesn't seem like an insurmountable hurdle. The Flash is produced on The CW, and that has lots of special effects. Some of those effects are cheesy, but since Supergirl is similarly lighthearted, it can potentially pull off cheesy-but-awesome effects like King Shark.

If this report is true, we may be finding out about Supergirl within the next couple of days, but either way, we can expect to find out for sure when CBS announces its full schedule next week at the upfront presentations in New York.
