The MCU Just Passed Another Major Movie Milestone
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a Hollywood behemoth whose power knows no bounds....That much is clear to just about anybody who has stepped foot in a movie theater over the last 8 years. Captain America: Civil War, the MCU's latest entry is the latest in a long string of successes for Marvel, and this weekend their biggest movie yet just helped the MCU pass another huge movie milestone.

As Civil War dominates global box office, the wider-MCU just successfully made its 10 billionth box-office dollar in just 8 years of its being. The news cements the MCU as the highest-grossing box office franchise of all time, leading Harry Potter (approx $7.7bn), James Bond (approx $7bn) and Star Wars (approx $6.5bn). While some of those franchise totals would certainly increase when adjusted for inflation, it's hard to deny that after 8 years and 13 movies, the MCU is one of the most powerful movie franchises the world has ever seen.

What were once relatively obscure comicbook characters, the likes of Iron Man and Captain America have now become household names among the masses, and they are hauling in a remarkable amount of money in the process.. The MCU's rise to dominance is made all the more amazing by the fact that, back in the early 2000's Marvel almost sold off the rights to these characters, a move which would have seen Warner Bros. owning Captain America and Sony owning Thor. Thankfully, Robert Downey Jr. became Iron Man and the rest was history.

Captain America: Civil War is now widely expected to follow in the footsteps of Iron Man 3, Avengers, and Avengers: Age of Ultron in becoming the latest MCU movie to make over $1billion at the box office. And to think, Disney only paid $4 billion for the entire franchise!
