Fox Execs Say X-Files Will Return, But Later Than We Thought
The X-Files revival series had a couple of decent episodes, a couple of terrible episodes, and one great episode, but most importantly, ended on a huge cliffhanger. But although it had record-breaking ratings and Fox was reportedly happy with the show, they still didn't officially order an eleventh season. Now, Fox executives Dana Walden and Gary Newman have confirmed that an eleventh season of the beloved sci-fi show is in the works, although it will probably happen later than we'd like.

At a press event this morning (via THR), Walden confirmed that creator Chris Carter and stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are all "on board to do another installment." So now the only impediment is scheduling, since all three of them have families and are extremely busy with other projects. Duchovny stars in NBC's Aquarius and just released his second novel, Bucky F*cking Dent, while Anderson just appeared in War and Peace and also stars in The Fall and has several films in the works.

But still, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that X-Files will come back, they just don't know exactly when. According to THR, "both Walden and Newman noted that while they're 'encouraged' and 'hopeful,' they don't foresee having a batch of new episodes to launch until the 2017-18 season." So it looks like we won't see season 11 until at least 2017, but that X-Files will definitely return at some point.
