Harley Quinn Movie in the Works Starring Margot Robbie
Well, that was quick. Suicide Squad doesn't come out until August, but Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn has already become its breakout character. Now, Warner Bros. has already greenlit a movie starring Robbie's antiheroic fan favorite.

However, it's not a solo movie (that would just be too good to be true), but rather a spin-off centering around several of DC's female heroes and villains. According to THR, who first broke the news, no plot details have been released, but "names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have surfaced." And while this isn't a Harley Quinn solo movie, THR's sources say that she was the "impetus" for the project, and that Robbie herself brought on a female writer for the project (whose identity is still unknown), so it's likely that Robbie will be the de facto star.

It's clearly too early to say who else will appear, but we would love to see Jena Malone star alongside Robbie as Barbara Gordon, especially since we didn't get to see her in Batman v Superman. Other possibilities thus far include Katana and Enchantress from Suicide Squad, who were both members of the Birds of Prey in the comics, and, of course, Wonder Woman, although she would probably just cameo a la Batman in Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5, while the projected release date for the Harley Quinn movie is TBA.
