A Movie Trilogy Based on Tetris Is Coming — Seriously
In this week's sign that Hollywood has run out of ideas, word comes that Chinese/American company Threshold Global Studios is working on a "sci-fi thriller" trilogy based on Tetris. That's right. The block stacking video game is apparently going to be turned into not one, not two, but three full-length feature films. Who thought this was a good idea?

While they're hoping for a global hit (good luck with that), the Chinese market seems to be mostly what they're aiming for. The first installment is expected to film mostly in China, and will feature a Chinese cast. As for what the plot could possibly be for a movie based on a game where players stack colored bricks? That's anyone's guess, but the filmmakers seem pretty excited about whatever it is they've come up with. Producer Larry Kasanoff, who worked on the Mortal Kombat movie, said the Tetris film is "not at all what you think; it will be a cool surprise." The last time we heard something like that we ended up with the Battleship movie, and we all know how that went.

But hey, maybe we're wrong and Tetris will be the greatest sci-fi adventure the world has ever seen. After all, what could be more thrilling to watch for two hours than this:
