UPDATED: Which of the X-Men: Apocalypse Stars Will Be Back for More Movies?
X-Men: Apocalypse introduces a whole new roster of young mutants, but are they intended to replace the old guard? That question is still somewhat up in the air, as the contracts for some of the franchise's biggest stars, including Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult are all expiring after this movie.

UPDATE - 05/19/16 04:07 pm

It sounded like McAvoy, Fassbender, and Hoult were all on board, but Jennifer Lawrence's latest statement to EW makes us more worried about all of them:

Opening quote
"Fassbender and McAvoy and I were all talking," she said, "Like, 'Will you come back?' 'I dunno.' 'I'll come back, if you come back.' Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn't come back, none of us are."

Could this mean that Professor X won't be in New Mutants after all? This all sounds very unofficial, so hopefully we'll at least be seeing Fassbender and McAvoy return.

Original article below:

But which of them will be back? At first, it seemed like Professor X was a definite, while the others were a little more in flux, but McAvoy's most recent statements about whether he'll return are somewhat ambiguous:

Opening quote
"Even if this is the last one for me or for other people, you just are sort of grateful for the experience," McAvoy told EW. "I know I can speak for a lot of the other guys as well that it's been a really positive experience for us professionally and socially and personally."

However, EW also reports that McAvoy, Fassbender, and Hoult all stated that they are "more than willing" to come back, so it's likely we'll be seeing them again (Professor X, in particular, is already likely to appear in the developing New Mutants movie). But Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique is the biggest question mark, with the actress once again expressing her ambivalence about continuing with the franchise:

Opening quote
"I would love to come back," said Lawrence, but then went on to say, "You realize how important your year is, like how important three months out of your year isI don't know... I shouldn't be that honest."

It sounds like the ball is just sort of in Lawrence's court, which is probably as it should be. Lawrence's career is taking off in a huge way, and the Oscar winner will have her pick of projects in the near future. Plus, considering that she sort of phones it in as Mystique (understandably, but still), it might not be such a bad thing for her to move on.

But regardless, the producers are prepared for all contingencies, as they have a new line-up of young mutants to take the possibly departing actors' place. So when they were casting, they consciously made sure they were prepared for the new talent to be the future of the franchise.

Opening quote
"We needed those kids to be as compelling on screen as Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy and Oscar Isaac, and that's a tall order," said writer-producer Simon Kinberg. "We did feel a lot of pressure to find a young cast that can live up to that caliber of acting."
Closing quote

So regardless of whether the old guard is returning, we'll see a lot more X-Men movies in the near future. New stars Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Alexandra Shipp (Storm) are all contracted for multiple movies, with Shipp set to appear in the New Mutants film.
