Captain America Is the Biggest Movie of the Year So Far
In news that will come as a major shock to no one, Captain America: Civil War has rocketed to the #1 movie in the world for the year 2016. Marvel's latest, starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and many, many more, has grossed more worldwide than any other movie this year after only 13 days in theaters.

After taking in $10 million at the global box office yesterday, Civil War reached $981.9 million in total, surpassing another Disney movie, Zootopia, which previously held this year's record with $971 million. This would be exciting enough on its own, but this weekend, Civil War is expected to reach $1 billion worldwide, which is a huge milestone. It will not only be the first in 2016, but only the 25th movie to achieve that gross period, and the sixth superhero movie, after Avengers ($1.52 billion), Age of Ultron ($1.41 billion), Iron Man 3 ($1.22 billion), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.09 billion) and The Dark Knight ($1.04 billion).

Civil War has been breaking box office records left and right, from advance tickets outselling all previous superhero movies to helping Marvel pass the $10 billion milestone. It will have major competition in a couple of weeks from X-Men: Apocalypse, but regardless of what happens, this is already a win, especially considering how soundly it's beaten Batman v Superman. Plus, considering the tepid reviews for Apocalypse so far (including our own), they may not have too much to worry about anyway.
