New 'Star Trek: Beyond' Posters Are Beyond Amazing
Anticipation is building for Star Trek: Beyond, with new trailers and new revelations seemingly coming out daily ahead of the film's release on July 22. The newest promotion comes in the form of two new posters, and both harken back to the franchise's long and storied history.

The new international poster sports a retro design that recalls the work of the late Bob Peak, who designed the posters for the first five Star Trek movies, as well as the work of Drew Struzan, who designed the Star Wars movie posters. In fact, fans will probably notice the similarity between the way Jaylah is holding her staff and the way Rey held her staff on the Force Awakens poster, which was designed by Struzan.

The new U.S. poster takes the retro theme even further, basically recreating the poster of the original Star Trek: The Motion Picture from 1979.

Here's the original for reference.

If you ask us, this seems like a smart decision. In a crowded summer movie marketplace, Star Trek needs a way to draw people to the theater. And reminding their sizable fanbase why they liked Star Trek to begin with seems like a pretty good way to do that.
