Star Wars: Here's When the Young Han Solo Movie Starts Filming
The Han Solo prequel anthology movie is finally starting to take shape. After a huge casting search in which Lucasfilm looked at thousands of up-and-coming actors, Alden Ehrenreich has been cast, which can only mean that the movie is gearing up to start filming in the near future. According to Star Wars legend and Han Solo writer Lawrence Kasdan, the movie will start production in London early next year.

Opening quote
"Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it," Kasdan said of the Han Solo movie at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (via Star Wars News Net). "They're great, funny and imaginative and we've had a great time together. My son [Jon] and I wrote the script and Chris and Phil are working on it and they're about to move to London to start shooting in January."
Closing quote

We've also known for some time that the film is scheduled to come out in 2018, and Kasdan confirmed a May 2018 release:

Opening quote
"Yes. They're actually scheduled for May. The [other Star Wars films] are falling on Christmas - Rogue One and Episode 9. Han will come before Episode 9."
Closing quote

It's unclear whether this will become a trend, and the trilogy movies will come out around Christmas while the anthology movies will come out in May. But it would make sense, considering that those are the two biggest moviegoing times of the year, and the Christmas release date worked so well for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Han Solo anthology movie is set to open in theaters on May 25, 2018.
