Disney and LucasFilm Are Selling Prop Replicas from Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Star Wars cosplay has just been taken to a whole new level. Disney and Lucasfilm have just announced that they are selling Star Wars collectibles that are "virtually identical" to props from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, everything from Kylo Ren's helmet to Rey's lightsaber hilt to Finn's blood-streaked Stormtrooper helmet.

Star Wars Prop Replicas

As you can see, the price tag is hefty, so this isn't for casual Star Wars fans by any means. But they're great for hardcore collectors' items, especially since they're limited-edition; the Vader helmet, for example, will only have 500 copies made, at least initially.

According to Disney, the replicas reach an "unprecedented level of authenticity," since they use digital data collected from the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is then fed into 3-D printing machines, provided by the propmakers at Propshop at Pinewood Studios.

Opening quote
"We've worked hand in hand with the film makers and talented team at Propshop to create a unique product experience for fans and we're excited to see their reactions to these incredible prop replicas," said Josh Silverman, executive vice president of global licensing at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media in a press release (via Collider).
Closing quote

These props are pretty awesome (my favorite is the melted Vader helmet), but again, they're only available for the most flush and dedicated fans. For the rest of us, we'll just have to sate ourselves by watching these making-of featurettes:
