Ben Affleck Talks About How He Would Write a Standalone Batman Script
Ben Affleck's come along way with the Batman fanbase since news of his casting hit the web. Though a lot of fans may have doubted him in the beginning, things slowly started looking more positive as the first image of him in the cape and cowl was released, then the first teaser trailer, and finally the movie itself. No doubt, Ben Affleck's Batman was one of the greatest parts of Batman v Superman, hands down.

So when it was confirmed that he would be working on a standalone Batman movie, it was certainly a great reason for fans to get excited. Affleck has achieved great success with his screenwriting with the Oscar winning Good Will Hunting, and he's achieved even greater success with his directing on a handful of different projects over the last decade. With Ben Affleck in the driver's seat (of both the film and the Batmobile), fans have a lot to be excited about.

Recently, an interview from back in March has hit the web where Affleck talks a bit about what he would do should he have the chance to write and direct the next standalone Batman film, and here's what he had to say:

Opening quote
I would probably do in some ways what Zack [Snyder] did with [Batman v Superman], which is to borrow certain things from the great comic books, but create an original story around it. I wouldn't want fans to already know the story and be familiar with it, but I would borrow - steal - great things that have been done before in the comics.
Closing quote

That sounds like a pretty great plan, as even though fans might yearn to see adaptations of their favorite arcs on the big screen, original storytelling is always going to be the biggest way to continue to move the character forward and retain his relevancy in the long run. With Affleck's track record with writing, it'll be fun to see what he incorporates from the comic book mythos and what he creates from scratch for the next standalone Batfilm.

Geoff Johns recently confirmed that he's working with Affleck on the film, and seeing as he's a guy who's written the character continuously for the past half-decade in Justice League, it would seem that the upcoming Batman film has one of the best creative teams behind it out of the entire DCEU (and maybe even the MCU). That, of course, is exactly what's needed for the character who has arguably become the most popular and beloved superhero in the world.

It's thought that the next solo Batman film will premiere sometime in 2018 or 2019, but as of now, it has no official release date.
