Report: DC's Next Animated Film Will Be Justice League Dark
Will the anticipation and hype surrounding Batman: The Killing Joke inspire another ultra-dark DC animated movie? According to a new report, DC's next standalone animated film will adapt the antiheroic Justice League Dark.

The news comes from Comicbook.com, who cite the evidence that the British Board of Film Classification listed "A Sneak Peak at Justice League Dark" as a special feature on the Killing Joke Blu-ray/DVD release. It hasn't been officially announced yet, or corroborated by other sources, but it seems pretty legitimate, so we'll see if that announcement comes soon (probably at San Diego Comic Con, where The Killing Joke will screen for fans for the first time).

Justice League Dark previously had a live-action adaptation slated, which was to be called Dark Universe and would have been directed by Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro stated that it would be part of the DCEU, and might even bring Matt Ryan back as Constantine. But in April 2015, del Toro departed the project, and we've barely heard a peep from it since.

We have mixed feelings about this, since we had our fingers crossed that the live-action adaptation would go forward. But then again, an animated adaptation doesn't necessarily preclude a live-action one in the near future. And besides, the DCEU already has a group of antiheroes that are getting rave reviews so far, so Justice League Dark might be a little redundant in the current climate. Or, maybe DC will try to replicate that success and spin off Cara Delevingne's Enchantress into the Dark Universe movie. We'll have to wait and see.
