Star Wars: The Force Awakens Finally Finishes Its Domestic Run
After more than six months, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally out of domestic theaters, which means we have our final box office tallies. The Star Wars sequel/reboot currently stands at #1 at the all-time domestic box office, and globally is the third highest-grossing movie of all time.

The Force Awakens made almost a billion dollars domestically, which is very much unheard of. Its domestic box office stands at $936,662,225, far surpassing the second-place contender, Avatar, at $760,507,625. Internationally is a slightly different story, as Star Wars was unable to compete with James Cameron's two juggernauts. The Force Awakens stands at $2,068,176,052, compared to Titanic's $2,186,772,302 and Avatar's $2,787,965,087. It's still playing in a few international locations, but it looks unlikely to beat either film by the time it goes out of theaters.

There's still a chance, however, that The Force Awakens could become the second highest-grossing movie of all time. Both Avatar and Titanic made a significant amount of their box office haul on re-release, so if The Force Awakens ever comes back into theaters (which I'm sure it will), it will likely take the #2 spot. It will probably never beat Avatar, so that will have to be the aspiration for Episodes VIII and IX.
