Suicide Squad Officially Gets a PG-13 Rating
After the success of Fox's Deadpool movie, R-ratings are all the rage among fans (and certain Hollywood execs) these days. But while Deadpool was a property that fit well within an R-rated environment, embracing the freedom that such a rating allowed the Merc with a Mouth's special form of comedy, not all franchises would be able to take advantage of the scope an R-rating brings. Certainly, the MCU has done a great job of pushing the boundaries of what a PG-13 rating allows, and you won't find many Marvel fans calling for an R-rated Doctor Strange or Avengers movie.

On the DC Comics side, Warner Bros. has remained steadfast in their stance that their upcoming DCEU properties would not need R-ratings to succeed. But when Batman v Superman was given an R-rated home-release cut, many had hoped that Suicide Squad would get a shot at ssomething. With its character line-up having a penchant for the violent and crude, Suicide Squad would seem well placed to take advantage of an R-rating, more well placed, in fact, than Batman v Superman. Unfortunately for all us violence junkies out there, BoxOfficeMojo reports that MPAA has given Suicide Squad a PG-13 rating for "sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language."

This shouldn't really come as much of a surprise, as David Ayer and the Suicide Squad have never even hinted that they would be targeting anything other than a PG-13, but that's not going to stop some folks feeling disappointed. Still, at least we've got all of that "disturbing behavior to look forward to, which means our favorite DC anti-heroes will be able to express their naughty sides....just a little bit.

There's more hope for the future, though. There remains the possibility of a similar R-rated home release version, and Ayer has suggested a number of times that he is keen for his proposed Suicide Squad sequel to be made with R-rated themes, and with Deadpool already showing that an R-rating doesn't have to kill your chances at the box-office, he might just get his wish.
