The Battlestar Galactica Movie Just Got a Writer
Universal's proposed Battlestar Galactica movie is getting more and more real by the minute. After the long-rumored project took a big jump towards reality when Universal secured Michael De Luca to produce, the movie just secured the services of a writer and it's rumored to be close to setting a big name to direct.

Deadline reports that Lisa Joy will pen a script for the project, which has been floating around at Universal for a number of years. Joy is an up and coming name in the business, most recently writing and executive producing HBO's upcoming Westworld adaptation. This is a huge step to bringing the project to fruition, but Deadline's report also states that an even bigger step could be taken very soon.

The report claims that Universal are close to securing a deal that will see Francis Lawrence direct the movie, although not until he's finished work on the Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller, Red Sparrow. Lawrence is best known for directing the last three installments of the Hunger Games saga, so it's safe to say he knows his way around a big budget movie. Should this happen, it means work could start on the project as early as late 2017.

Whether or not you want a BSG movie, it looks like all the pieces needed to make one a reality are starting to move into place. Should the first movie be a success, Universal could be looking at having a major new movie franchise on their hands. It's thought the movie will be more closely tied to the original 1970's creation and not, as many have called for, based around the more recent TV series.
