Is This Wolverine 3 Character Description for X-23?
Are we about to get a cinematic female Wolverine? A new character description from the upcoming film has emerged, and it might reveal that Hugh Jackman will be replaced by a young teenage actress.

The scoop comes from That Hashtag Show, who have previously reported on several pieces of geek news before they officially broke, including Finn Jones' casting as Iron Fist. According to the report, the new character description from Wolverine 3 reads:
Opening quote
12 to 15 year-old girl. Still a child, but a wounded badass, a pound puppy, raised in captivity in a time of battle, without support systems of normal childhood. She has no family and until now, has never left the compound in which she was born. She has an authentic intensity – her expressions & body language speak volumes, without words. Once released in the outside world, everything is new – every experience and every image a first. This does not mean everything is wonderful or wondrous. Some things she sees (things we might regard as conventional) may scare her or anger her and things we may find interesting may bore her. She has not been instructed in many social conventions – she can eat like an animal. She studies and often mimics people's behavior. She has a high IQ, but is also a temperamental, impulsive and feral creature that can raise genuine mayhem. She is a girl that has never been kissed. Looking for a REAL girl – not made up or done up. Also with genuine edge, not made up or put on. Martial arts or gymnastics experience preferred but not necessary – but actress must be extremely physical and able to improvise scenes without necessarily resorting to speech. Do NOT play it "cute".
Closing quote

Blowing past some of the weird, gendered language in this description ("never been kissed"? Really??), this sounds an awful lot like X-23. X-23, or Laura Kinney, is a female clone made from Wolverine's damaged genome who shares essentially the same powers. She was also raised in captivity in the comics, so it would make sense to play her as a kind of feral child, and the general bad-assery certainly makes this sound like a new superhero.

This would also make sense in light of the X-Men: Apocalypse post-credits scene, in which mad scientists seemed to be keeping Wolverine's blood for a "Weapon X" project (Weapon X is also rumored to be the title of the Wolverine sequel). Since Apocalypse takes place in the 80's, and Wolverine 3 takes place in the future, the scientists could have used the intervening decades to clone Logan's genome. And since this is supposedly Hugh Jackman's last outing with the claws, it would only make sense to introduce a new version of Wolverine in the mix.

Wolverine 3 opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.
