New Video from EA Teases a Huge Expansion of Star Wars Gaming Titles
We might have had a raft of new Star Wars storytelling since the Disney takeover, but so far the gaming side of things has been slightly lacking. Last year EA released Star Wars Battlefront, and though the first major game of the Disney era was met with fair to middling reviews from fans, it went on to sell over 14 million units in its first 6 months of release. Clearly, the hunger for quality Star Wars gaming is as strong as it ever was back in the old LucasArts days.

Despite this massive desire for new Star Wars gaming titles, there has been very little in the way of concrete news on what Disney has in store for us. In an attempt to remove some of the mystery (and fire up the hype train) EA has released a new video featuring snippets of what looks set to be a huge expansion of Star Wars gaming.

Though much of the video featured segments that teased expansions to existing games like Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, there were a number of moments to suggest that big things are on the horizon for fans of Star Wars gaming. In addition to this video, EA revealed a bit more detail on whats in store during their E3 press conference.

Here's a summary of what we've learnt from the EA press conference and the teaser video.

- A new Battlefront title is in the works, with a 2017 release date being earmarked. EA has promised that the new game is being developed with the massive amount of customer feedback they received from last year's Battlefront title. Maybe this means we'll get some story-based missions and space battles?

- Visceral Games is continuing to work on their upcoming Star Wars action adventure property. Released in 2018, the game will supposedly provide "an original, authentic narrative in the Star Wars universe."

- ReSpawn Entertainment (Makers of Titanfall) are working on a massive new game with"a different style of gameplay that takes place in a different timeline we have yet to explore with our EA Star Wars titles." This is likely to be released some time after 2018.

- Bioware look likely to have a new RPG title on the bubble. James Ohlen, the Director of Design on Star Wars: The Old Republic, teased the potential of a new Star Wars game from Bioware by saying "Beyond the Old Republic, there are so many stories that we still want to tell."

- Footage of some form of Star Wars virtual reality experience is shown.

Prepare your wallets, people. It looks as though we're going to be spending a fair bit of cash on new Star Wars games between now and 2020.
