New Documentary Puts a Spotlight on Practical Effects Creators
We were all pretty excited to see how many old school practical effects went into Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Don't get us wrong, CGI can be great when it's used properly, but there's something magical about the physicality of practical effects; especially creature effects. Now, a new documentary is shining a spotlight on the people who've worked over the years to bring some of the most memorable movie creatures to life.

The doc, Creature Designers: The Frankenstein Complex, features loads of interviews with the guys who handled the effects for franchises like Star Wars, Alien, and Terminator; as well as a ton of footage of these actual creatures being made and put to use. It's a great behind-the-scenes look at a dying art form, and hopefully will serve to inspire a new generation to pick up the mantle of practical effects creation.

In addition to the special effects artists featured, like Rick Baker and Phil Tippett, the film also features interviews with big directors like Guillermo del Toro, John Landis, and Kevin Smith. And it has maybe the coolest movie poster of all time.

The film is currently making the festival rounds, but you can check out the trailer right now below.
