Independence Day Director Attached to Direct Alien Invasion Script "Moonfall"
With Independence Day: Resurgence just around the corner, the alien invasion genre is kicking back into gear (if it ever left). Two different sci-fi action scripts are being shopped around studios in Hollywood, one of which has Roland Emmerich attached to direct and is suitably described as "Armageddon meets Independence Day."

Moonfall, which was also co-written by Emmerich along with Singularity filmmakers Harold Kloser and Spenser Cohen, follows "an unlikely band of misfits who, when an asteroid collides with the moon, must come together to travel to the moon and harness the alien technology left behind to stop it from colliding with the Earth." It's literally Armageddon meets Independence Day, and especially with the alien technology aspect, is basically just a Resurgence redux. Maybe there's something original about the script itself, but the premise sounds painfully generic.

Another alien invasion script, The Fall, sounds a little better, and according to the Tracking Board, has already made it to most of the major studios. This one takes place in real time, and centers on a newly divorced couple who gets caught in an alien invasion in downtown Atlanta and makes a dangerous journey on foot to the suburbs to reach their children. This script was written by Pete Bridges, a relative unknown who made the 2015 Black List.
