We all love the movie Ghostbusters, but we also can't forget the outstanding animated series that followed it, The Real Ghostbusters. The show, which ran from 1986 to 1991, was excellent. It greatly expanded upon Ghostbusters mythos, and probably had more of an impact on your childhood than you remember (all those fantastic Kenner Ghostbusters toys you had? Yeah, those were from the cartoon, not the movie). So it's super exciting to learn that not only is there a new Ghostbusters movie on the way, but a new animated series as well.

The new show, Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, was announced by Sony on June 20, and it sounds like it will be taking the team in yet another direction. Here's the official statement:

Opening quote
"Ghostbusters: Ecto Force will further expand the Ghostbusters cinematic universe and focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters in the year 2050 who capture ghosts around the world with help from local teams - and some very cool gear."
Closing quote

By the sound of it, the series won't feature the same team as the new movie, but will instead take place in the distant future, likely adding even more of a sci-fi bent to the franchise. Ivan Reitman, who directed the original Ghostbusters, is producing the new series, which is expected to debut somewhere on television in early 2018. Yay for more Ghostbusters!
