Willem Dafoe Is Playing an Aquaman Ally in Justice League
The news broke a couple of months ago that Willem Dafoe was playing an unknown superhero in the DC cinematic universe. Now, set visits and today's Licensing Expo are revealing tons of new intel about Justice League, including Dafoe's mysterious character. According to a new report from Collider, Dafoe is playing Aquaman hero Nuidis Vulko.

Vulko is the chief scientific advisor of Atlantis, and one of the most recurring members of the Aquaman cast in the comics. He is also a notorious political figure, even becoming King of Atlantis in the Earth-2 continuity. He was present for Aquaman's birth, and argued against leaving him to die, and then later befriended him when they were both in Atlantean prison.

According to the report, while the character is based on the iconic comics character, the aesthetic will be significantly different. Instead of the traditional bald and bearded look, this Vulko will be "scruffy with long silver hair," and will be wearing armor with "intricate silver lacing" meant to highlight the generational gap between him and Aquaman. It hasn't been officially confirmed that he will also appear in the Aquaman solo movie, but it seems like a safe bet.

Justice League Part One hits theaters on November 17, 2017, while Aquaman is slated to open on July 27, 2018.
