Star Wars: Rogue One May Not Have the Traditional Opening Crawl
Will Rogue One be the first Star Wars movie without an opening crawl? It's technically a standalone film, so it's a little ambiguous whether it will have all of the traditional elements we expect from a Star Wars film. According to Kathleen Kennedy, the inclusion of an opening crawl is under debate as we speak:

Opening quote
"We talk about that all the time. It's something that we're right in the midst of discussing even now, so I don't want to say definitively what we're doing," she told EW. "The crawl and some of those elements live so specifically within the 'saga' films that we are having a lot of discussion about what will define the [stand-alone] Star Wars Stories separate and apart from the saga films. So we're right in the middle of talking about that."

It would be a little disappointing to leave out the opening crawl, since it's the telltale sign you're watching a Star Wars movie, and inherently gets you excited for what's coming next. But then again, it might be interesting to see a variation on the opening crawl, since this is the first anthology movie we've ever seen. I would hope they would have some sort of analogous opening at the very least, but distinguishing it from the saga films might not be a bad idea.

In the same interview, director Gareth Edwards also addressed those reshoot rumors, and reiterated that they're just part of making a major blockbuster movie:

Opening quote
"I mean it was always part of the plan to do reshoots. We always knew we were coming back somewhere to do stuff. We just didn't know what it would be until we started sculpting the film in the edit," he said. "There's lots of little things that we have to get, but it's all little things within the preexisting footage.

"It's funny, making a film stops you believing anything you've ever read on the Internet."

Although it's possible he's just putting on a brave face, we tend to believe what he's saying. Some of the rumors have been outlandish, with sources claiming that up to half the movie is being re-shot. That really can't be true, because with post-production, they would need to push back the release date, and there has been no mention of that at all.

Edwards insists that there are no major changes to the film, but that it's just tweaking so that it can be the best film possible:

Opening quote
"A film is a very creative, organic process, and it evolves over time," he said. "There's no right or wrong. There's just 'better' and 'best,' and with Star Wars, nothing but the best is going to do. So we're just putting a lot of pressure on ourselves until the very end, making this the greatest film it can be."
