Watch the First Terrifying Trailer for Ridley Scott's "Morgan"
Anya Taylor-Joy terrified audiences with her breakout role in indie horror movie The Witch last year, and now she's at it again, as this trailer for the sci-fi thriller "Morgan," produced by Ridley Scott, is the young actress at her creepiest:

The film stars Taylor-Joy as the titular Morgan, an experimental bioengineered child who grows extremely rapidly (the 20-year-old actress is playing a six-month-old), and apparently has telekinetic powers. Fantastic Four and The Martian's Kate Mara co-stars as a corporate consultant sent to investigate an incident involving the potentially dangerous child, and an escape and other horror movie antics ensue.

According to director Luke Scott, Ridley Scott's son in his directorial debut, the film explores classic sci-fi themes of the dangers of humans playing God:

Opening quote
"What Morgan really alludes to is human beings becoming, in a sense, the creator," he told EW. "Not in a traditional religious sense, but an idea that we have the capabilities to become our own creator. And what I suspect could happen - we've seen it in all these movies, whether it's Frankenstein or Metropolis - it's the creation of a being that is greater than the creator."
Closing quote

This sounds pretty familiar, and the trailer walks the line between interesting and cheesy at times. But then again, the cast and behind-the-scenes pedigree is very promising, and films with these familiar themes can put a new spin on them, as we saw with AI drama Ex Machina last year. All in all, this looks like a movie to keep an eye out for.

Opening quote
A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent "human," who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.
Closing quote

Morgan comes out in theaters on September 2.
