'Doctor Strange' Will Show a New Side of Wong
Doctor Strange is considered by some to be one of Marvel's more problematic properties to adapt, given its reliance on Asian mysticism stereotypes. Marvel tried to combat that perception in their upcoming Doctor Strange movie by casting a white woman, Tilda Swinton, in the role of the normally Asian character, The Ancient One. But their plan backfired, and they were criticized for whitewashing the role.

For the other main controversial role in the film, Doctor Strange's martial arts practicing manservant, Wong, Marvel did cast an Asian actor in the role, but he's definitely not going to be a manservant in the film. "I'm certainly not going to be the tea-making manservant," actor Benedict Wong told Den of Geek. "We're heading in a different direction. He's more of a drill sergeant. There isn't any martial arts for Wong in Doctor Strange actually, he's more of a drill sergeant to Kamar-Taj. He's one of the masters of sorcery."

We're glad to hear about the direction Marvel is taking Wong in Doctor Strange. The character's classic portrayal as a subservient, kung fu master is definitely outdated, and the new version sounds like he's going to be pretty badass. We were already looking forward to the movie before, but now we seriously can't wait to see this thing.
