Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 Reveals the Reasons Behind Cap's Hydra Turn
Last month, the comics community was shocked when Marvel seemingly revealed that Steve Rogers has been working for Hydra for his whole life, even uttering the words "Hail Hydra" in the last issue. Now, Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 is coming out this week, and preview pages might shed light on the reasons for Cap's villainous turn.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said they were somewhat prepared for the pronounced reaction on social media, but believe that the conversation will change after this issue:

Opening quote
We're trained to anticipate a strong reaction to change or a big plot twist like this, whether it's a female Thor or the new Ms. Marvel or the Korean-American Hulk. We didn't expect the reaction to be anywhere this big. It was comparable to the way that people reacted to the death of Captain America. I think a lot of the people reacting most violently aren't people that go to the comic book stores every Wednesday and are trained to understand the way the comics work and the rhythms and how we could do this kind of thing with our heroes.

Obviously, when people read issue 2, it's going to provoke a whole new discussion amongst fans as the truth is revealed.

In issue #2, we find out that Cap's memories of being indoctrinated by Hydra were implanted by Kobik, the manifestation of the Cosmic Cube, who is being controlled by Red Skull. On the one hand, this makes much, much more sense than Captain America actually being a sleeper Hydra agent, but at the same time, it does sort of damage Marvel's credibility, since they insisted that this "twist" wasn't the result of brainwashing or any kind of similar trick.
