Here's Why J.K. Simmons' Commissioner Gordon Is So Muscular
Remember a few weeks ago when those pictures showed up online of J.K. Simmons looking super ripped while working out for his role as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League? We were all wondering why Gordon needed to be such a beast, and now Simmons has provided the answer: Gordon's not a beast, he is.

Speaking to Business Insider, the actor explains that he's just always in good shape, and that Commissioner Gordon is not meant to look like a superhero in the new film.

Opening quote
"This is all coincidental. After the second and final time that I got hugely fat in my life and when I lost that weight six or seven years ago, I pretty much decided that I was going to stay in decent shape for the rest of my life ... [back then] I was not in good shape at all. I was overweight and soft and here I am playing the head of the Aryan Brotherhood in this maximum-security prison in the first-ever HBO original drama (Oz) and I was watching the first season when it came out and I just thought, 'Wow, I don't believe this guy at all. I have to get my a- to the gym and be a believable hard-a-.'"
Closing quote

As for his version of Gordon, the 61-year-old says longtime fans don't have to worry about some new interpretation of the character. "I'm not going to mess with something that iconic," he says.

So there you go. Commissioner Gordon isn't going to be body slamming any supervillains in Justice League - but J.K. Simmons might just do so in real life.
