Avatar to Release a Multiplayer Game Ahead of Sequels
Avatar's sequels have been delayed several times now, and it was starting to feel like we'll never see Pandora back on our screens. Now, 20th Century Fox is teaming up with Lightstorm Entertainment to make a "massively multiplayer" strategy game set on Avatar's alien world and featuring characters from the films.

The games are set to debut before the second Avatar movie, and will continue to be updated after each of the planned four sequels. According to Avatar producer and Lightstorm COO Jon Landau, the game will not only allow players to explore the world of the films, but will actually expand the mythology:

"The world of Pandora is massive, far beyond what we are able to include in our feature films, and we think fans will be excited by the level of additional depth and detail that they will be able to experience in this game," Landau said.

There's no official release date for the game, but it will likely come out shortly before the oft-delayed Avatar 2, which is now set for a Christmas 2018 release. The further three sequels are tentatively set for 2020, 2022, and 2023.
